Overview

Forwarding your abuse reports to Abusix for processing is easy and beneficial to your organization. We will parse your abuse data and extract numerous details that will give you an exact idea of what is happening on your network.

Some of those parsed data points include:

  • Event type – Covers those abuse types listed in your AUP (malware, spam, phishing, DMCA, etc).
  • Incident details – These are the details covering the incident part from the Abuse Report.
  • Evidence details – These are the details covering the evidence part from the Abuse Report.
  • Header information – The details about the sender, the recipient, and how the message was routed and authenticated.
  • Subscriber details – Information related to your subscriber/customer.

Abuse reports sent to the abuse@ role address ([email protected]) should be forwarded by “aliasing” your abuse@ role address to the SMTP email address provided to you as shown below.

If you send reports that you receive at an email address other than the abuse@ role address, “alias” that address to the SMTP email address provided as well.

⚠️ Forwarding from an email client does not work!
Forwarding using an email client changes the formatting of messages, and every email client changes the formatting differently.

Steps:

  1. Check if your “role address” is an existing alias address and if Abusix can be added as an additional alias to the address.
  2. If your role address supports aliasing, add the Data Channel forwarding address (e.g., [email protected]) as an alias in your email server.

By “aliasing” role addresses, we ensure that the emails are not altered in transit, no additional headers are added, and the report is not repackaged in an envelope in an email.

Access the System Settings menu within AbuseHQ to configure Data Channels.
You will need to access this menu within the Admin Portal to access the Data Channels:

  1. Click the Settings option in the left menu under AbuseHQ.
  2. Click on Data Channels.
  3. Next click on Create Data Channel.

The next screen will guide you through a couple of steps that will get your report forwarding started.

Forwarding abuse reports from web forms or internal platforms to AbuseHQ

  • If possible, don’t use email for internal reports but submit them via our API using a XARF Schema.
  • You may have to submit via email if you have a web form for reporting abuse or a system generating alerts in your network. In these cases, use XARF for SMTP. Also, see our documentation link for more information.
  • If you wish to send reports from internal systems, avoid bulk email reports as they are manpower intensive to parse and maintain the parsers, vs. the fire-and-forget integration provided by Submitting data via the API to Data Channels.
